On Friday, July 6th we headed out on the road to Vegas with no kids and some friends from our ward! Kim had found a great deal on tickets to see The Phantom of the Opera since it will be closing the beginning of September. I can remember my parents and grandparents seeing it when I was younger so I was very excited to finally see the Opera.
We stopped in Cedar City at Winger's to grab a bite for lunch. It has been nearly 7 years since we have been to Winger's. When Tim and I were newlyweds (good thing we were already married) we headed out on a date to Winger's. Tim happened to order a tray of buffalo wings and apparently did not believe that good table manners were need when eating buffalo wings. The napkins were to be used only at the end of the meal even though he had sauce dripping (more like running) down his face throughout the entire meal. I decided that evening that we could never set foot in a Winger's again! When John and Kim heard this it was decided that we had to go to Winger's. John loves the buffalo wings and completely agrees with Tim, the messier the better and napkins may be used only at the end of the meal.
Picture of John coming out of Winger's.
Tim was of course ecstatic to have buffalo wings! I still am pretty set on never returning :) When getting back on the freeway this car was driving along of us. The trunk was not open for any apparent reason so when we pulled up along side it Tim shouted, "Your trunk is open." It was an older lady and she just did not realize that she was driving with her trunk open. As we pulled onto the highway she pressed a button in her car and the trunk slowly closed.
As we continued our six hour drive to Vegas the kids were home with Grandma, Grandpa, and Hunter having lots of fun! Our cousins also stopped by and the kids headed to Jump On It (a warehouse that is covered in trampolines all over the floor and walls with some other fun activities).
When we arrived in Vegas we checked in at the Luxor Hotel then took the tram over to the Venetian. It was very very hot as you can tell by our "sweaty" glow!
Heading into the Opera.
The theater was amazing! Of course there is no photography in the theater but Greg tried to snap a quick shot. I look a little excited :)
After the show we walked around on the strip. Kim and Heather decided it would be much more comfortable to take off their shoes.
We headed back to the hotel and decided to try our luck at gambling. Haha....I do not see how anyone could find gambling addicting? Way to stressful. We figured we would just have fun and play a few games. We originally had decided that a twenty dollar bill was our limit. However once we started playing we decided that a $5 dollar bill was enough. No sense in wasting $20 dollars. We also played the quarter blackjack machines. $1.00 is too much to waste at once. See? Why do people enjoy this? After we made an addition $5 dollars our night was over!
The next morning we woke up grabbed a quick bite at the hotel then headed to the pool for an hour to soak up some sun. Then we checked out of our hotel and hit the road!
It was a super quick trip and we're sorry we did not get a chance to visit with our family in Vegas. It was so nice to be with great friends and get away from our children that we adore so much :) I am so grateful that my family was able to come down and take care of the kids. I did not need to worry about them at all, they were in good hands.
On the drive home we saw this beautiful rainbow in the middle of nowhere. It was such a great trip! Hopefully we will be able to do it again sometime in the future!
