I am sure you have already heard but it seems a new fire is starting every day here in Utah. The weather has been hot, dry and it has been quite windy. Utah has had more than 400 fires this year, 385 of these fires have been human caused. I was just looking outside at our view last week when the kids were inside sick and noticed this.
I was very grateful that it was on the other side of the lake. I could literally see the flames from my house. Thankfully it did not look to be too close to the homes in Saratoga Springs and Eagle Mountain.
The next morning I woke up and had completely forgot about it. Until I later read on Facebook that a few of my friends in the area were being evacuated from their homes. About 2,500 people were evacuated. I cannot believe how quickly this fire spread within less than 12 hours.
If you had 15 minutes to evacuate your home what would you bring? Besides my family and Pike, the computers would be the next thing in the car! They have nearly 40,000 pictures and home videos of our family. I also realize that I need to take all of the scrapbooks that my mom made of me as a child and turn them into digital scrapbooks -it would take me an hour to carry them all upstairs and load them into the car. If I made them digital and they were already on the computer then- tada I would already have them!
They had crews working around the clock to contain the fire and later that week the fire was finally out! Even better is no homes were lost.
Unfortunately that has not been the case in the Church Hill Fire in central Utah, or the fire in Colorado Springs. Hundreds of home have been lost and both fires continue to rage with minimal containment. Our thoughts and prayers go out to those that have been affected.
